Vintage, Hand-Crafted, Double-Limb, Archery Bow, "Penobscot-Style", SOLID. Condition is "Used".Found in an old New England estate ... this DOUBLE -LIMBED bow actually has two bow lengths ... the longer bow measures 56 inches and supports (at the grip) a second bow measuring 43 inches ...
I just learned from an Ebay member, who messaged me and stated this is a Penobscot-style bow that historically was used by the Penobscot Tribe of Maine .... The string could be switched between limbs to give you multiple draw weights ....
But who the maker is ?? ... is UNKNOWN ....We do not know if its a genuine Penobscot bow, or one that was crafted using their design .... We will most likely never know .
this is by far, the STRANGEST bow I have ever seen ... One string ...four limbs ... Bizarre !
I showed it to several avid archers... and none of them had ever seen anything like it before .... But ALL agreed it was crafted by someone who knew what they were doing .. the craftsmanship is top-shelf for sure ....
It is very nice, hard wood ... something like ash or hickory... With a wonderful aged patina.
The string has these little hand-sewn covers for the end of the longer bow ... to protect the ends of the limbs.
The grip is made of two types of wrappings ... both wrappings are still tight and have serious patina ... One is a leather-kind-of substance .... abovce and below that ...the material appears to be some kind of hemp-type material (see photos...use the magnifier))
There is a wooden spacer-sort-of brace between the two bows at the grip and is covered by the wrappings ... but a little bit shows at each end of the wrapped grips (see photos) this spacer-brace appears to be the same wood as the rest of the bow ...
There is an inscription on the handle wrapping that reads “Little Bear - Memere “ ... at least that’s what it looks like to me ...
Original string ... great patina ...
A unique bow if ever there was one ....
Any information would be greatly appreciated
Thank you in advance ...
Neither I ... nor anyone else... since I acquired this bow... has attempted to string it or shoot it .... It has hung on the antlers of a deer head in my man-cave for a number of years now .... Starting conversations like nobody's business ...
